A retreat in the Pahang highlands

Maranta
House.

Six villas, twenty-four hectares of jungle, one long table. Cooking with what the land gives. Quiet that has weight to it.

The credo

Written into the deed of the land, kept under the long table.

The mountain was here long before we were. We do not call it ours. We tend it for a season, share it with whoever finds the road, and try to leave it quieter than we found it.

Cooked here

What the soil gives that morning. Nothing flown in.

Built by hand

Local timber, lime plaster, six villas, no two the same.

Held back

Twenty-four hectares. Six guests. By design.

Six villas

Each named after a tree on the land. None alike.

Built one at a time over five years by a single team of carpenters from Bentong. We will not build a seventh.
